Mission Statement

1. To be a vital, exciting place where children learn basic skills through stimulating and creative experiences.

2. To be a nurturing environment where each child develops and thrives.

3. To help children keep up in today's world by teaching problem solving skills that allow them to look at things from different angles until solutions are found.

4. To foster independent behavior and develop "I can do" attitudes.

5. To be a good kindergarten where children learn by using their five senses, experimenting, exploring and finding things out for themselves.

6. To be a classroom that acts as a 'laboratory' with teachers guiding children in their pursuit of knowledge.

7. To retain skilled kindergarten teachers who know how children learn and how to put "Pizzazz" into the learning experience.

8. To gear the program toward the "whole child" by concentrating on not only the intellectual development of the child, but the social, emotional and physical development as well.

Special Features of the Program will Include

1. One half hour of Spanish instruction per week.

2. Half an hour, three times a week, of physical education instruction by a credentialed teacher with specialized training in physical education.

3. Emphasis on language arts to include shared reading, guided reading, small group instruction, spelling, creative writing and drama.

4. The math component will involve understanding the "why" rather than memorizing concepts. Much emphasis will be spent on using manipulatives in solving math problems.

5. Our "junior scientists" will conduct experiments, make predictions and come up with solutions. A science consultant will be involved in creating the "hands on program."

6. Weekly art and music instruction including the study of famous artists, art techniques like water colors and famous musicians and composers. Children will be exposed to a variety of music, including opera, classical and jazz.

7. Social skills will be taught, including etiquette, phone numbers, how to introduce a friend, etc.

8. Problem solving instructions will be included once a week.

9. The social studies will include geography, study of other cultures and a spring make-believe-trip to a foreign country.

10. Field trips will be scheduled to enhance and reinforce learning.

11. Parent communication (conferences, letters, written assessments of child's progress, etc.) will be an important part of our program.

12. A computer will be available for use in the classroom.
